David Koresh and the Branch Davidians

April 19th, 2011 | by Peter Saint-Clair | 9 Comments »

I normally don’t post on Tuesdays, but since the 18th anniversary of the siege at Waco is today, I figured it’d be as good as any to talk about David Koresh and the Branch Davidians.

The Branch Davidians actually came into existence in 1955 as a sect of the Davidian Seventh Day Adventists, hence the “branch” in the name. The Branch Dravidians functioned more or less like you’d expect until 1981 when a name by the name of Vernon Howell strolled into one of their Saturday services (the Davidians hold that Saturday is the Sabbath) Read more…

Homemade Wine For The Cheap-Ass

April 17th, 2011 | by Peter Saint-Clair | 2 Comments »

I started making wine a while back and am often asked how it’s done. It’s actually a quite simple process that requires more patience than anything else.

Before I begin with the Cheap Ass’ method for making wine, it should be pointed out that any talk of this method around a seasoned Vintner will probably get you laughed out of the room or dismissed as an idiot. I, on the other hand, am not a seasoned wine maker, but I guess I am an idiot. Or cheap and lazy. Read more…

Weekend Mystery #1

April 16th, 2011 | by Peter Saint-Clair | 2 Comments »

Alrightty, as promised, here is a mystery you can solve using only the information you learned in my time of death posts here and here. This is an easy one, I think, so the winner will receive 2 hours of my time in helping you set up a WordPress blog either on WordPress.com or your own domain – or even still, if you already have one of those, I’ll help you optimize it. I’m doing this to create some interest in the NF book I’m currently working on that has to do with that very thing.

“Come, Watson, come! The game is afoot. Not a word! Into your clothes and come!” Read more…

How To Determine Time of Death – Part 2

April 15th, 2011 | by Peter Saint-Clair | 6 Comments »

Ok, so last time we talked about time of death, we were discussing all the various mortis’s, mortisi, whatever, which are very good indicators of the time of death – mostly. Past a day or two, however, these methods become more and more unreliable as time goes on and so the decomposition of the body is likely to pick up the slack from there.

As with the other aspects of determining time of death, temperature has a definite effect on the rate of decomposition. For instance, the cold can almost halt decomposition Read more…

Creating A Killer

April 13th, 2011 | by Peter Saint-Clair | 4 Comments »

So, since I’m currently working on a mystery novel, I figured that I’d start with a new series on how to do the same…basically anyways. First up in this new series will be how to craft a killer. I’ve written extensively on bad guys, so why not make the first post about the bad guy anyways? That and it’s always good to create the antagonist first so that you know how he reacts to certain things and what-not. Read about the basics of a good villain in a post I did several weeks ago to get the basics down. This post will pretty much be killer specific. Read more…

Elizabeth Báthory-The Blood Queen

April 11th, 2011 | by Peter Saint-Clair | 5 Comments »

Although she probably never bathed in the blood of her victims and her guilt is often debatable, Elizabeth Báthory is perhaps one of the most iconic serial killers of all time, ranking right up there with Jack the Ripper, John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer.

The Countess Elizabeth Báthory was born in Nyírbátor, Hungary on 7 August 1560. Her father was a political figure in Transylvania and her mother, Anna Báthory, was the daughter of another Transylvanian politician. In 1575 she married Ferenc Nádasdy, a military man for the Hungarian army and together they had 6 children. Read more…

Battlestar Galactica Watch Order

April 8th, 2011 | by Peter Saint-Clair | 5 Comments »

I’ve just recently started watching Battlestar Galactica and I was astounded to learn of the many sort of off shoots of the main seasons. So, with that in mind, here is a watch order as I’ve have come to understand it for anyone interested in watching it. Read more…
