Lucky Number (Final Fantasy) 13

There is a new category here at MSF, “Geek Stuff.” In honor of this new category, I want to speak on the game that I have been waiting years for…Final Fantasy 13. I was first introduced to this amazing RPG series years and years ago when I played Final Fantasy 3, which to this day is one of the best RPG’s of all time. Since then I have been a Final Fantasy nerd who anticipates each installment like it is a personal present from Square.

For those of you who are not familiar with this truly amazing game, let me explain why Final Fantasy 13 is so important. The first Final Fantasy game to be released for the PlayStation console was Final Fantasy 7. If you take a break from reading this and Google something like, “Best RPG ever,” you will almost always see FF7 in the top 5. After Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 ran their respected course for the PlayStation came the first release for the PlayStation 2 console, Final Fantasy X. Now, this game is not nearly as highly rated as FF7, but this was truly an amazing game, which I rank 3rd in the franchise just behind FF7 and FF3. We are now up to PlayStation 3 and this console represents a huge leap in graphics and game play from its predecessors. On March 9, 2010, Final Fantasy will make its first appearance on this console, as well as multi-platforming for the first time by being released on the X Box 360.

As Final Fantasy 7 was the first release for the PlayStation and Final Fantasy X was the first for the PlayStation 2, one is lead to believe that Final Fantasy 13 for the PS3 and X Box 360 will be yet another great game following the previous debuting patterns. In fact, Square, the developer of the Final Fantasy series released an RPG for the X Box 360 entitled Lost Odyssey, which was their way of warming up for the FF13 release. If this game is any indication of what is to come with FF13, the game will not disappoint.

Lost Odyssey had stunning visuals, a deep and enthralling storyline, and a new innovation to the typical turned based fighting style of Square RPGs. Final Fantasy 13 almost definitely will prove to be a major milestone in the Final Fantasy series and I for one cannot wait to get my hand on this game. If you have never played a Final Fantasy game and are interested in playing some of the most decorated games of all times, check them out as you can get them relatively cheap now that they are older. And for those of you who have played some or all of the Final Fantasy games, March 9th is right around the corner. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys a well written RPG, and I haven’t even played it yet;but with Final Fantasy debuting on a platform, I can guarantee a great game.

I’m waiting for Elder Scrolls 5 and Fallout: New Vegas, but this seems like it’ll be an excellent game so far as what I’ve read.

I am quite sure that both of those games will be hot as well. However, you have ran away from the Final Fantasy series for as long as I have known you. You need to give them a shot and play one (3,7,10,or 13) all the way through and see if your opinion does not change. In fact, because they are all for older game systems (except for 13 of course), and since they are turn based so a standard console controller is not really needed, an emulator should do the trick. ;) Why not give 7 a download and check it out again…you won’t be disappointed.

In fact sir, why don’t you find a good PlayStation emulator and tell me how to install it properly so that I can enjoy FF7, FF8, and FF9 on my laptop while I am at ODU. That would be sweet. Let me know what you find and how exactly to do it. I was browsing around and they are out there, but I am not sure exactly how to install and properly run them.

steve, good emulators for a windows comp are pretty easy to come by; there’s PSEmu and ePSXe are two of the big ones. They are both based on a plug-in infrastructure and are very reliable. I have personally played FF Tactics, FF7, and a few other gems ’cause I don’t like the way they look stretched to 42 inches.

and chris, you hit the nail man. ever since I saw the teaser trailer on my 360, i’ve been just about drooling in anticipation. my personal fav FF’s are tactics, 7, and 9. I was actually really disappointed by FF12, so much so that i didn’t even bother finishing it.

Thanks, I am looking at ePSXe as the one to get, but I am not sure what to do with the BIOS and all of that. I know there are steps to properly installing it and I just want to make sure I get it right. And, I think you did the same thing I did, I wrote this post, not Chris. LOL. Chris has always talked shit about FF because he does not like true turn based RPGs. His loss though, maybe he will come around one day.

They have Final Fantasy 7 for PC ya know…if that’s the one you’d want to play, you could just play that version instead of the emulated one.
