Good People Do Exist
My procrastination almost made me miss a concert tonight that I have been counting down the days until for over three months. I have been anxiously awaiting the Devil Wears Prada, All That Remains, and Story of the Year show since the day it was announced. Unfortunately, when I went to the Norva today to purchase my ticket I was informed that the show was sold out. I didn’t weep, but I considered it. After basically giving up on the idea of going, I thought of one last ditch effort to possibly get to the show…Craig’s List.
I hoped on Craig’s List only to find that people were selling the tickets at double face value now because of the good old supply and demand philosophy…in other words, people are assholes sometimes. Finally, after contemplating how much I wanted to see the Devil Wears Prada (who has been previously referred to in the “Being Christian is a Very Christian Thing to Do” post, I decided to try and call a few people and see if they could be talked down to a more reasonable price. To my surprise, there was a new post for a guy in Charlottesville selling the ticket for $25, the original selling price. Immediately, I called him…and here is where my true surprise and appreciation for the few decent people in the world truly kicked in. Not only was he selling the ticket at face value, but he sent me the link to the printable ticket within 10 minutes and said I could send him the money, “whenever I got a chance.” Really?!?
Now, mind you, I am going to send him the money tomorrow morning as soon as I wake up, but he not only sold the ticket at normal price, not only got it to me in less that 10 minutes, but had the trust to give up his ticket BEFORE getting payment! It is great to see that someone in this world is willing to do something decent for someone else and have the trust to make it happen. Fortunately for the seller, I am also trustworthy and have no ill intentions of not getting him his money, which I am fairly certain a large number of people would do. Thanks to a perfect stranger, with nothing to gain from his act, I get to go see one of my favorite bands tonight, despite the show being sold out. Thanks to all those people who make me realize that is world is not quite as far gone as I sometimes think.
