And The Ending Is…

Spoiler Alert!!!Spoiler Alert!”  Do you ever go to a site to download a movie and the very first review you see says this before the article.  Do you every wonder why?  Well, I have experienced several instances in the past several years that give me an idea with why sites must add this tag to the beginning of every post; people are obsessed with ruining and spoiling the end to EVERYTHING!

The advent of DVR and TIVO has both been great and horrible for me.  I am a huge sports fan and I am not always around to catch every game I would like to see.  So, for obvious reasons, I DVR them.  However, 9 times out of 10 before I am able to get to watch it a few hours after it has aired, someone will spoil the end.  Even when I say, “Hey man I’m taping that, don’t tell me the end,” they insist on at least saying something like, “Wait until you see so-and-so’s play in the third.”  Don’t do that!!  I don’t want to watch the game and then when it is tied in the third I know something drastic is coming.  This takes away from the game and the excitement that follows.  While sports spoilers (and movies) are what happen the most often, they are by far not the worst spoilers that can happen.  The worst you may ask, books.  Do not, ever, under any circumstances reveal the ending of a book.  Reading actually takes time and for those of us that enjoy a good read, its nice to not know the ending.

Now, before it seems like I am talking about people who may slip up or not know you are reading a book, that is different.  Still sucks, but not malicious.  However, my girlfriend was recently reading the Harry Potter series from 1 to 7.  She made the mistake of telling one of her coworkers that she was reading the books and this sparked his obnoxious idea.  He had never read the books and had no plans to.  However, he wanted to be “that guy” and ruin the books for her.  So, he went home, googled the ending to both the 6th and 7th book, and told her what happens.  Really?!?  Yeah, really.  This is clearly just plain hateful.  I really don’t understand how intentionally angering someone can give another human being joy.  Oh well, I know there are a lot of bigger things to whine about, but it is in fact a major annoyance of mine.  In fact, it annoys me so bad that I chose it to be my first “annoyance” post in over four years.

Sidenote – There are circumstances in which a “spoiler” becomes acceptable.  If you do not know that Bruce Willis is dead in the 6th Sense, well sorry, you’ve had more than enough time to see the movie, and if you have avoided the ending for all these years you are some sort of cave dwelling ninja that humanity is unfamiliar with.

About MSF.com

Steve and Chris started thingsthatpissusoff.com several years ago and was unfortunately shut down after only one year. MSF.com is an ongoing attempt to sort of "re-live" those days, but, at the same time, bring better writing and solid articles to the table. Feel free to comment on anything posted here because that's essentially what the site is here for. If you'd like to post your own articles to MSF.com, all you have to do is ask. Also, the ads shown on this site don't necessarily reflect MSF views or beliefs. They are semi-random and based on key words I think.
